“…I had forgotten how loyal dogs were. According to Randy and the kids, when I go to the mailbox, Ren climbs onto the love seat in front of the living room window and anxiously scans my every move, whining with worry.

When I come back with the mail three minutes later, he greets me with wiggling body and big smile, like I’d been lost at sea for two years. Randy says that if I’m gone in the car, the dog will sit in our living room and vigilantly wait. A thousand vehicles can pass, but suddenly Ren will spring up and jump to the top of that love seat, tail wagging frantically.

Strangely, no automobile is in sight yet. But sure enough, five seconds later, my car appears. No one has figured out how Ren knows. It’s not like my muffler’s hanging off.

But he does…”
